Plagued by injury and illness, it was down to a team of 11 to deliver...
After a shaky start to our season in a new division, the Magicians were face with another strong opposition when we faced Wycombe.
The tone was set by Maidenhead as we started the match with our clubs newly adopted Shake Hands campaign and with that completed, it was time to get down to business.
The first half was a well fought for half with both teams eager to get ahead and take control of the match. It wasn't until the latter part of the first half that we were able to stretch Wycombe enough for Olly Young to drive for the D and shooting from the top and scoring. making it 1-0 to the Magicians. Wycombe not only responded to this, but added to their tally and at the halftime whistle Wycombe were in the lead 2-1.
The halftime ask of this 11 strong team was to dig deeper and play as a team and play for each other as these game was still up for the taking.
Pushback to the Magicians to get things started and what a start it was! In under 10 seconds between Alex Hodgetts, Olly Young and Chad Fitzgibbon we levelled the score to make it 2-2 with Olly getting his second goal of the match. Not long after the start it was the turn of the skipper Chad who pushed the Magicians into the lead making 3-2. Wycombe were certainly testing our defences when they were awarded a number of short corners which were time and time again repelled by our defenders as they cleared our lines each time. By this stage we had found a rhythm and adopting the half court press we defended and attacked as a team. As a result of this it was Wycombe's turn to feel the pressure as we started to test their defences more and more. This led to Chad scoring a further 2 more goals, making it 5-2 to the Magicians at the final whistle.
There was not a single member of the team that walked of that pitch who did not give it their all and everyone played their part!
Thank you Magicians...
