Maidenhead 2s got back to winning ways against an obdurate and resolute Wycombe 3s team on Saturday to claim three much needed points. The match started with a sense of deja-vu from the reverse fixture in October as Maids started brightly, dominating both possession and territory. However, they soon found themselves behind after Wycombe stuck from a short-corner (one of only two times they made it into the Maidenhead D in the first half). Maids continued to make all of the running and eventually equalised as Matt Deane’s cross was deflected into the goal to level things at the break.
In the second half was similar as Maids dominated the ball while Wycombe looked to attack on the break, but were stifled through great defensive work by Anthony Brayshaw. After several near misses and a goal ruled out for a foot, Maids finally took the lead for good when Deane struck from 10-yards out. There was still time for Wycombe to apply pressure and force and number of short-corners, but Maids held on for a vital win!
Next week Maids face another Wycombe team in the much stronger 2s.
