Merlins sink Valley while skipper sinks a few in the valleys

It is a rare occasion that the old Iron Man of Zermatt is unavailable for a Merlins fixture, but with a chance to get a Harpist experience in a Welsh tavern (I think that’s what he said), the Merlins skipper forsook the chance to lead the team against an up-and-coming1 Thames Valley side.

  • Mens 1st XI beat West Hampstead 9 - 1

Maidenhead posted their biggest win of the season with a 9-1 thumping of West Hampstead on Saturday. The pressure of pushing for a promotional playoff spot did not seem to affect the players as they started with a quick tempo and quickly took the lead. They maintained pressure throughout to ensure West Hampstead had no chance of getting into the match.

  • Mens Merlins lost to Teddington Tigers 0 - 5

    TEDDINGTON TIGERS 5 – 0 MAIDENHEAD MERLINS

  • Mens 1st XI beat Staines 4 - 3

Maidenhead saw off a fighting Staines side to secure their 13th win of the season. The 4-3 victory keeps Maidenhead in third place in the league, behind Chiswick and Eastcote who also recorded wins over the weekend.

Despite sitting mid table Staines have shown they possess a considerable goal threat, with the second highest scorer in the league. It was not long before they extended their goals scored with a scrappy short corner. The set piece seemed to have been broken down until a miss-hit shot wrong footing the Maidenhead keeper and crept into the corner.

  • Mens Merlins lost to Farnham Common Wrinklies 0 - 5

    Smooth Wrinklies

A perfect day weather-wise, a perfect Bray II pitch (Thank you Charlie!), pity about the result as Merlins were rolled over 5-0 by a strong and experienced Farnham Common Wrinklies side.
