Mens Mavericks Match Reports
Mens Mavericks beat Hampstead & Westminster Vets 4 - 0
The Mavericks kicked off the new season in style with a solid 0-4 win over a strong Hampstead side.
Mavericks had prepared for the season with 2 friendly matches against Reading and Eastcote and this experience helped them the start brightly and make an immediate impact, Don Henley-King going close on several occasions.
Sadly, Mavericks were unable to make the early pressure tell and Hampstead soon started to gain confidence and began to move the ball well. With much of the action taking place in midfield it looked unlikely that either side would break the deadlock.

Mens Mavericks beat Oxford Hawks 5 - 1
Oxford Hawks started strongly and put the Maidenhead midfield and defence on the back foot for the first 10 minutes; but Maidenhead soaked up the pressure and rode their luck despite some good passing play and resulting penalty corners by Oxford Hawks. Maidenhead started to get back into the game but succumbed to a shot from a broken down penalty corner.
Mid-way through the first half the tide started to turn and the home side got more possession and created more opportunities.
Mens Mavericks beat Winchester 2 - 1
Maidenhead have had a couple of epic games against Winchester over the last 2 years with a 4-5 defeat and and 5-5 draw for their last match and people were intrigued to see what would happen this time playing them away.
The Mavericks had a great run in the middle of the season which was broken recently with 2 defeats against the top two teams Barnes and Bouremouth and a hard fought draw and were hoping to get back to their wining ways.
Maidenhead got off to a great start moving the ball quickly and dominating the play.
Mens Mavericks beat Guildford Vets 6 - 4
Maidenhead had lost (2-1) to Guildford when playing at home earlier in the season but have had a great run over the last 9 games with 7 wins and 2 draws. Before the match Guildford had a game in hand over Maidenhead and a victory would have seen them leap-frog over Maidenhead to claim 5th place in the league. The Mavericks had a point to prove against a strong and confident Guildford side and although lacking a couple of regulars they were looking forward to the re-match.
