The MHC Old Goats win the six team international tournament on a beautiful sunny day

Maidenhead Hockey Club’s 39th annual veteran’s tournament was played in unusually sunny conditions on the grass pitches at Bray on Sunday. They welcomed back the Abrahams from Holland and STK Berlin from Germany to play a points based tournament with the Exiles and the Handbags, and two home teams, the Merlins and the Old Goats.

A large crowd of supporters watched each team play five 20 minute games.

The result was never in doubt as the Old Goats finished with 15 points, having won all their games. Their captain Rod Gauld was presented with the 75th Anniversary Cup, first presented in 1979 to Hounslow Veterans.

As always, there is a Wooden Spoon trophy, which went to the other home side, the Merlins, presented by tournament organiser Lionel Connor.

The first Veterans Tournament was held in April 1979 as part of the Club's 75th anniversary celebrations, and it has been held every year since then. This year's Tournament will be the 39th.
