Players are travelling far and wide for this annual vets tournament with teams from both Germany and Holland.

On Sunday, 15 April, Maidenhead hosted their 40th veteran’s tournament on the grass pitches at Bray with 8 participating teams. These included Abrahams from Holland and STK Berlin.

The players and a large crowd, including a number of ex-Maidenhead players, were able to avoid the rain until the last match. Adapting well to the unfamiliar grass surface, they were able to produce some skilful hockey resulting in high scoring points for the top 3 teams.

The winners were the Warlocks from Winchester with 14 points, followed by the Exiles from Windsor with 12 points, and STK Berlin from Germany with 10 points.

The cup was presented to the winners by Lionel Connor, who started the tournament in 1979, and the Wooden Spoon went to one of the 2 home teams, the Merlins.

The usual formal dinner was held the previous evening in the clubhouse, including a number of presentations. These included Lifetime Achievement Awards to Vice President Lionel Connor, and Vice President and past Lady Captain, Sue Cheale, who jointly organised the tournament and dinner.

A big thank you to them both for all their years of organising this fantastic Tournament.

The first Veterans Tournament was held in April 1979 as part of the Club's 75th anniversary celebrations, and it has been held every year since then. This year promises to be a special celebration with people travelling specially for the 40th anniversary.

The Teams participating were:
Abrahams, STK Berlin, Old Goats (MHC), Merlins (MHC), Exiles, Rusty Nuts,Warlocks and Handbags.
