Ladies 3A's beat Henley Ladies 3s 3 - 0

Match Date:
Saturday, November 21, 2009

Maidenhead Ladies 3As turned out on a windy Saturday lunchtime determined to get back to winning ways after a couple of losses the previous 2 weeks.

The game got off to a good start for Maidenhead with the midfielders and forwards keeping most of the early possession and forcing Henley to absorb sustained pressure.
The forwards worked the ball round the Henley defence on both left and right sides linking with the midfielders using some quick one-twos to beat the defence. Henley rallied strongly though keeping Maidenhead out of the D and clearing all loose passes. After 15 minutes of close play the score was still 0-0 and Henley started to gain in confidence after their successful defensive attempts. Maidenhead started to play a little too high up the pitch and Henley were quick to capitalise on a few gaps in the midfield, launching a few surprise attacks. These were quickly closed down by Karen and Lindsay in the middle and Debbie, Gill and Claire in defense and Maidenhead once again resumed the pressure. It seemed only a matter of time before the first goal. A well worked attack up the left hand side of the pitch between Megan, Sam and Yas saw the ball being driven into the D and Amanda finished it off with a strike into the back right corner of the goal.

The second goal came a few minutes later in another attack, this time from the right. Jo and Nic brought the ball into the D and Jo found herself in a one on one with the goalie. Not to be put off she deftly took it round the back of the goalie firing it strongly into the back of the goal. Maidenhead settled down into the game with the 2-0 cushion and a third goal came only 5 minutes later just before half time from a short corner. The shot on goal was saved by the goalie but Nic got onto the end of the rebound sending it back towards goal powerfully with Yas getting the final touch into goal.

The half time score was 3-0 and Maidenhead were feeling confident. Henley came back strongly in the second half, launching a few well worked attacks which the defence closed down well. Angela in goal made some good saves but for the most part, the play continued to dominate the Henley half. Maidenhead continued applying pressure but with a very defensive Henley squad it was hard to find many gaps. Both teams battled hard to the final whistle and the game finished 3-0 to Maidenhead.
