Ladies 3As beat Oxford 6 - 0

Match Date:
Saturday, November 5, 2011

Maidenhead finally found the right blend of youth and experience to put paid to any challenge that Oxford were able to mount with an extravagant 6-0 drubbing. Veteran forward and club legend, Jo Upton, rolled back the years in scoring yet another hat trick to add to the many others in her illustrious career.

Maidenhead started the game with a flourish and forced several penalty corners in the first 5 minutes. The first 15 minutes were played entirely in the opposition half and Maidenhead finally capitilised when a forging run down the right wing ended with Lisa Olpalko nipping in front of the keeper to turn Nic Squires cross in. The second followed soon after when Jo could not miss after Lisa had set her up in front of goal. Jo added the third before half time with a well placed shot that thudded against the backboard from a half saved penalty corner.

Throughout the second half Maidenhead increased their domination, defenders Deb and Katie Luff hardly had to touch the ball, whilst left back Gill Gobbold became restless and pushed further up the pitch to a midfield role. Karen Goodall,  Jo Beck and Jo Quincey controlled the game and encouraged wave after wave of Maidenhead attacks. Olivia Thompson scored goals 4 and 5, with Jo adding number 6 with only the keeper to beat after some sublime skill from man of the match Katie Perry.

A great victory and platform to build for the rest of the season.
