Ladies 3rd XI beat Wycombe 3rd XI 4 - 2

Match Date:
Saturday, November 26, 2011

Maidenhead 3s went into this local derby with a changed side, including people playing out of position and 2 members of the 3as making their 3s debuts.

Maids started well, creating several attacks and chances within the first 5 minutes, but were unlucky to concede early on, when Wycombe had their first attack of the game. Despite this, Maids heads did not go down and they responded almost immediately, when Lara Bampford’s shot from the top of the circle found Emma Cowell in front of the keeper, who then reverse stick passed the ball to Jo Beck, who slotted the ball in on the post.

With the score now level again, Maids kept pushing forward and creating chances. When Wycombe did attack, they were kept at bay with a solid Maids defence of Sarah Tyrell, Carine Kielstra and Laura Jackson. Tyrell having a particularly good game, making several key tackles in one on one situations.
Maids soon took the lead for the first time in the match, when a short corner strike was saved by the keeper, straight out to Rachel Tabone, who at the top of the circle made no mistake in hammering the ball into the Wycombe net.

Despite having the best of the possession and play in the first half, a lapse in concentration saw Wycombe equalise and leave the score at 2-2 at halt time.

Maids went into the second half with renewed determination and found themselves with most of the play. Sarah Briggs, Beth Marriott, Tabone and Bampford dominating the play in midfield.

Maids took the lead again early on, when Jenny Heckford’s pass down the line found Cowell, who beat a defender and then ran the ball down the base line, before passing back for Hannah Catley to expertly pass the ball into the goal.

Maids continued to dominate after this and soon found themselves 4-2 up after Cowell’s short corner strike found itself nestled in the bottom corner of the goal.

Wycombe did start to fight back in the last 10 minutes, but the Maids defence and Alice Stilliard in goal held firm to hold on for Maids first league win of the season.
