We're not the finished article yet

MHC Mens 1s 2 V 2 PHC Chiswick
Chris Brown was delighted to score Maidenheadmen 1sts’ crucial late equaliser against PHC Chiswick, but admits the side are not yet the finished article and have plenty to work on.
Brown swept home from a short corner in the final seconds to salvage a 2-2 draw for his side, and Chiswick ‘barely had time to restart’ before the final whistle was blown.
Maids had taken the lead through David Tyler’s first half strike, and dominated large chunks of this match against the leaders.
The result means third placed Maids are three points behind Chiswick, with a game in hand, ahead of this week’s matches at home to Oxford University 2nds tonight (Thursday) and bottom club Amersham & Chalfont on Saturday.
“We came away from Chiswick feeling pretty positive,” said Brown.
“It was a hard-fought, blood and guts type of match between two sides who desperately wanted to win.
“We were fairly dominant in the first half, but they were excellent after the interval and went 2-1 up.
“Our equaliser came right at the end, they barely had time to get the game restarted.
“We left it a little later than we wanted but it was no less than we deserved.
“I was pleased to get on the scoresheet. I happened to be in the right place at the right time and I was able to put the ball in.
“But it was the boys hard work that created the pressure and the corners which led to the goal.”
Despite matching one of their league title rivals away from home, Brown said the team still need to improve on aspects of their game.
“It does fill us with confidence,” he said.
“We’re disappointed by the way we let Chiswick back into the game in the second half, but we also showed the spirit to get something from the game.
“There are things we’ve got to work on and we know we’re not the finished article.
“If we can get six points from this week’s games that would be very good.
“That’s what we’re aiming to do and it would certainly put us in the driving seat, or at the very least put us back at the top of the table and give us some momentum going into the latter weeks of the first half of the season.”
