Magicians vs South Berks 5

The Magicians lost out with the last play of the match in a closely contested encounter v South Berkshire. The team had a depleted squad so some players had to play in an unfamiliar position and therefore pushing South Berkshire all the way to the last seconds was a huge success, even if the result proved disappointing. The back four of Dave M, Richard, Chris Farrall and Jacob were excellent throughout the match and despite the team going in 2-0 down at half time, defensively we had dealt with threat well as the score could have been much greater. The Magicians were also thankful to have a Charlotte in goal who stepped in to produce some fantastic saves and keep us in the match especially in the first half.

The team started the second half much more positively than the first with more attacks and disciplined play. This eventually led to a short corner and from the ensuing melee after the initial hit, Viren found Dave M in the D who guided in for 2-1. The team were starting to cause South Berkshire many more problems at the back with Ollie and Mark running midfield with Clint, and Yuvraj, Chris and Tim stretching the opposition defence. Despite a period of great play, we conceded again but didn’t let our heads drop. From a loose pass from one of the South Berkshire defenders, Yuvraj picked up the ball, ran into the D and slotted in the far corner for 3-2.

With the rain pouring we searched for an equaliser and with about 10 minutes to go this finally came with Viren to make it 3-3.

The team had really turned the whole game around and defended extremely well with special mention to Chris Farrall and Jacob at the back for their great performances. However, in the dying seconds, the opposition were awarded a penalty corner and managed to sneak a win.
This was a performance to be proud of especially against a team with many more subs than us and having been 2 goals down.

So many players could have been our player of the match but that goes to Yuvraj this week for his fine goal to cap off a fantastic performance.
