Sunday saw our Ladies 1's hosting A&C a team who are within 2 points of the home side. Feisty from the start Maidenhead lacked the same confidence and pressure from yesterdays game, not helping matters losing Miall to a calf injury within 10 minutes of the game. However the depth and versatility of the home side can be commended as a quick re-shuffle and Maidenhead got down to work. short corners were the order of the day a first time strike from Miall saw the keeper rebound straight to Downes who again, brilliantly put the ball in the back of the net.
End to end play continued with A&C stepping to the ball first and winning possession back quickly caused Maidenhead problems and quickly found themselves 1-2 down. regroup at half time and again Maidenhead found some fight, particularly lead by Umaiyah who created some brilliant runs to confuse the A&C defence, locked at 2-2 the game could of gone either way, a great run by A&C down the left hand side crossed the ball into the D which found an unmarked A&C forward to place the ball home.
2-3 down 10minutes to go and Maidenhead needed a little bit of luck and magic, they stepped up higher to cause more pressure on the A&C defence which eventually paid of resulting in a short corner, an unlucky save meant that Westacott was ready to pounce on the rebound and slammed the ball home for another well deserved point. 3-3.
Lots to work on of course , but again the integrity of the team and the battling ethic has given the home side a successful 2 points from 2 games.
Thanks to everyone who came and supported, onwards and upwards, another battle next weekend against 4th place Henley.
