Ladies 1s vs Marlow 1s

A local derby with second place Marlow was always going to be a tall order for the ladies 1st team, but their pure guts and determination throughout the game really pushed Marlow to their limit of capabilities.

End to end action, short corners and big tackles all over the pitch made this a great encounter and not the walk over Marlow were expecting. Unfortunately Maidenhead just couldn’t finish off their opportunities, except for a superb hit into the corner of the goal by Hannah Stone, only to be overturned by the umpire for a foot before it went in.

The second half saw Marlow slowly gaining a lot of possession and with very fast wingers looked threatening, some superb tackling from the maidenhead defence kept the threat at bay. With a costly umpiring decision awarding Marlow a fee hit rather than a long corner for maidenhead, meant that Marlow had the momentum and scored a good break away goal with 10minutes to go. Maidenhead stepped up and responded well pressing higher but just couldn’t convert, with a higher press it’s always a risk of a counter attack and Marlow scored their second goal to put the game out of reach.

Such a courageous fight from the Maidenhead side and they should feel confident taking their work rate and effort into Wednesday’s rescheduled fixture against 4th place Henley.
