Ladies 1's vs Southampton 1's

Maidenhead’s first XI were back to winning ways this Saturday February 3rd against visitors Southampton. The team met their objective of starting the game with intensity and drive. We were passing the ball at speed and working for one another.

Our efforts resulting in an early goal which started with Issy Harris-Evans on the right, who passed it to Yana Todorova who flicked the ball onto Sarah Fuller in the D. Sarah smashed the ball through the goalkeeper’s pads to make it 1-0 to the home side.

Southampton reacted in turn, winning a short corner fairly soon after conceding; yet nothing was to come from it, nor was anything to come from a breakaway one-on-one.

Maidenhead continued to create lots of attacking play, but the score remained 1-0 at half time.

The two teams were more evenly matched in the second half, with Maidenhead clearly feeling the pressure of having only one goal advantage. The tense atmosphere culminated in a number of cards being issued to both teams, with Amy Martin picking up a green card and Amabel Hills being issued a yellow card with five minutes left to play.

Maidenhead’s nerves were put to ease somewhat when Mia passed the ball to Sarah, who played a wall ball pass with Hannah Stone to receive it back and flick the ball over the goalkeeper to score her second goal of the match.

By this point, Maidenhead were in control of the match and brought it home to win 2-0.
We hope to continue this into next week when we play Trojan’s 2nd XI at home on 10th February.
