Ladies 1's vs Oxford

Sorry bit delayed! Ladies 1’s:
Maidenhead ladies 1s were faced with a double header this past weekend (2nd and 3rd March), which arguably saw them come away with less points than they deserved.

On Saturday their opponents were Oxford’s 1st XI, who are fighting for promotion. The game was fast and intense from the start, with both sides creating plenty of attacking opportunities. Jen Martin made some vital tackles to keep Maidenhead level.

Maidenhead opened up the scoring after Sarah Fuller scored from a rebound on a short corner.

Mia then found herself in a 1v1 with the goalkeeper and expertly won Maidenhead another short corner, which Amy Martin just put wide.

Maidenhead’s second goal was a textbook team goal, starting from Liza Semenko in the middle, who passed the ball round to the right. The ball then found Yana Todorova in the D, who demonstrated excellent composure and slotted the ball past the goalkeeper.

Oxford then managed to get a break away goal, bringing the score line to 2-1. Soon after Oxford got another goal, meaning it was 2-2 going into half time.

In the second half, Liza put Maidenhead on top again when scoring from a short corner. This lead was extended by Sarah Fuller, who received the ball from Hannah Stone, who had picked up a ball that began with Bex Fuller on the side line. Special mention for Issy Harris-Evans who caused numerous problems for Oxford’s defence on the right hand side.

Unfortunately Oxford were able to get two goals back from short corners, making the final score 4-4. Having been ahead twice, Maidenhead might have felt that 3 points were for the taking - but at least the contest was exciting for the spectators!
