A tough start for the Ladies 1s

Maidenhead kicked off their first league game of the season at home to a strong Reading team.

The first opportunity fell to Ali Lubbock thanks to a pin perfect passes from Lyndsey Harwood and Carol Easter. However Lubbock couldn't get any power behind it and was easy for the Reading keeper to clear.

It was a balanced first ten minutes where Maidenhead looked to have the upper hand but this was upset by a breakaway from Reading. Goalkeeper Emma Cross was left with no option but to close down the incoming forward but as she entered the D, Cross dived and took her out, resulting in a penalty flick. Reading converted this and then started to take charge.

Maidenhead became quite defensive and struggled to get the ball into attack. This led to two further goals bring scored before halftime.

Maidenhead came out in the second half with renewed intensity, led from the whistle by captain Eddie Westacott. Reading couldn't get the ball out of their half and Maidenhead were constantly attacking. This led to some positive outcomes in the D but unfortunately none were converted.

However as the game progressed Reading managed to score one further goal and that was how the score remained, 0-4 to the visitors.

Coach Mark Stuart-Thompson said: " We still have a lot to work on but the second half gave me a lot of confidence in what this squad can achieve. We are already looking forward to next week."
