Ladies 3s 6 - 1 Gerrards Cross 1s

Fantastic start with good accurate passing to players on the move up to the 23m line and then we tried to drive straight into the D from here rather than building out wide and in behind their slow but steady defensive line. But chances came and we looked so hungry in the D with either Issy or Lisa pouncing on any ball anywhere near to create a chance or rebuild another attack. Real determination in the D won us our first flick for a while and fittingly Issy, as you were definitely up there earning it for us, took the flick and scored from the spot in superb style. A few minutes later after just 4 passes from our own 16 another we created a great scoring opportunity which led to another goal mouth tussle with Athena in there bossing the rebound and deservedly scoring her first goal and our second before half time.

Great half time observations from Kate to set us up to play some of the best hockey thisseason. We passed earlier, we passed wider, we ran faster and we got in behind them easily.
The third goal came when a shot from top right was saved but Lizzie was quick to follow in and pass to the ever waiting Issy in front of goal for her 2nd. I thought we were on a roll but a funny five minutes when we dropped the pace and let Gerrards X back in and they took the opportunity to win a few short corners one of which they converted on the near post to bring the score to 3-1.

Maybe this was just the trigger we needed to finish the game as we started it totally dominating particularly with Kate in middle choosing her passes with precision and using Nic effectively on the right to set Lucy off time and time again. We earned a few short corners and one of these led to one of the most interesting goals of the day but Nics shot just goes to show that you just need to get the ball towards those corners and anything can happen and it did – it went in!

Lucy’s superb strike from the right moments later gave us our 5 th and Lucy’s first for the 3s; I have a sneaky feeling there are lots more of those to follow and then Athena finished off the game and the scoring with a great close range effort after some really good short passing into the D and in the D.
