Fantastic Start to the Season

Match Report
24th September 2016
Maidenhead Ladies HC 4 XI versus Aylesbury Ladies 4 XI
Altwood School
Maidenhead 5 – Aylesbury 0
A comfortable victory for Maidenhead this week. Although the score line does not tell the whole story. As ever Maidenheads team was comprised a blend of youth and experience. At the back, Ruth and Fran answered Debbie’s call as the team was short of players. We are all so glad they did. Their strong on-field skills, on field coaching and on-field cajoling kept our shape and structure throughout the match. And more, they proved that they can more than walk the talk! We all have a lot to live up to! In the midfield, as always, we had Debbie at Centre Half, Jade on the left and Charlotte on the right. The midfield presented a tough challenge for those picking the player of the match. Debbie’s constant hard work was amazing, Charlottes determination and unbreakable spirit is an example to us all however, Jade’s best game for the team just won her the player of the games. She acted as a pivot between defence and attack making the game play flow. The attack players were a mixture of Jade, Issy, Miriam, Emily and Bryony. Jade had an outstanding game, she was our top goal scorer and earned herself a hat trick, her runs on the right hand side of the pitch were amazing and created a number of shooting opportunities, three of which Jade converted herself. This game was definitely the game of the two Jades. Issy was also a brilliant option in the D and towards the end of the game she was on her knees, determined to score a goal and Miriam’s runs were effective and her constant offering for the ball was handy when the team switched the ball from left to right. My personal favourite part of the game was when the umpire had called a short corner and we had decided Debbie was going to take the straight strike. Jade’s injection was flawless and Debbie stopped the ball before smashing into the goal on the right hand side, just above the backboard. Everyone was cheering and Charlotte exclaimed ‘Debs, that’s the reason you’re our captain!’, and she was right. This game, for me, really proved our work rate is constantly at one hundred percent, not once throughout this whole game did I see someone quit on a tackle or make a half-hearted run. A lot of our game play was flawless especially when we switched the ball around and passed the ball back, everything worked and as a team, we gelled well. Our team spirit and support we had for each other was irreplaceable! Well done maids!
