Match Report - Sophie Boycott

It was a slow start for Maidenhead as they fell short to an early goal by Amersham & Chalfont, as the ball came into the D from the right hand side, it past a crowd of players, and fell nicely to a waiting A & C player, who slotted the ball past Kiera.

It would have been a lot more in the early stages, but the superb Maidenhead Goalkeeper – Kiera kept the score line down.
This seemed to wake the Maidenhead team up who fought for every ball within the A&C half, whilst the defence swept up any lose balls and transferred them to the wingers, Catrin and Ruth, who ran tirelessly up and down the lines.

Some lovely build up play between Hannah and Amabel through the middle of the pitch, ended up winning Maidenhead their first short of the match. The injection from Amabel went straight to the left hand slip, were Boycott was waiting to hit the ball. The strike hit an A&C foot on the goal line and a penalty flick was awarded. Sophie stepped up and dispatched it pas the oppositions goalkeeper – 1-1
After some fantastic build up play down the right hand side of the pitch by Eleanor, Ruth and Bella, the ball found its way into the D, whilst the ball was played on to a A&C foot by the Maidenhead player. Maidenhead then changed their tactics for a short corner, Sophie B injected to the top of the circle, where Hayley did a lovely stick stop and knocked the ball into the path of Amabel, who first time strike found the opposite corner of the goal – 1-2 and we went in to Half Time.

Maidenhead rallied at half time with Captain Pippa. After some lovely first play in the second hand from Tegan and Elen, the ball found its way to Taylor who worked her magic dribbling passed multiple players into the D. she slipped the ball to Ellen who found an &&C foot. Another short. Yet again Maidenhead switched it up with Taylor injecting to Hayley at the top of the D with another great stick stop slipped the ball to Boycott and first time shot found the back of the goal. 1-3.

The last 10 minutes A&C really applied the pressure on Maidenhead defence being awarded 6 shorts but the defence stood strong clearing the ball multiple times. A fantastic display by Tegan, who ran out number 1 on every short.
Final whistle – 1-3 to MHC

Well done to Ellen and Bella who made their first MHC Ladies 5’s appearance.
