Finished 2nd in the League

Our final game of the season saw us play Yateley 4’s at our home pitch in the early 10am slot.

It was their pushback to start and after only a few moments of play we intercepted the ball and began working hard to get the ball up to the D. Our midfielders, Izzy and Holly worked along each wing with Pippa supporting in the middle. They managed to get the ball up to the waiting forwards, Kacey, Elsie, and Roo, and after a few near misses Roo managed to score our first goal of the game.

We continued our press and worked together to get the ball up to the D again. Yateley’s defenders, with their strong hits, kept us from another goal. But we set the press and intercepted as many time as we could when they had 16’s. After Yateley managed to get the ball through our press they drove to our D and won a short corner. Our defensive team of Kirsty, Chloe, Jess, Clare and LA got ready in the goal. The opposition set up and after a hard push out to their player at the top of the D, Clare ran out straight at her and took the ball off her, clearing it out of the danger zone. Then with just a few minutes of the half left we had an attacking short corner where Kacey managed to get the ball into the goal. Bringing us to 2-0 as the half time whistle went.

In our half time talk we spoke about setting our press nearer. With this in mind we went out ready for the second half.
Our pushback and we started strong. We worked hard up to the D, trying again and again to break through their defence and to find that goal, but their keeper made a number of spectacular saves, stopping us from scoring. After spending quite a considerable time in their half we got complacent and as Yateley broke for our goal we all tried to jump back from the high position we had taken up the pitch. Unfortunately we were not able to get back in time and they scored.

This put a fire in us and as we started again we were determined they were not going to score again!

We worked hard together with some lovely sibling connections between George and Izzy, and Holly and Chloe, who always seem to know where their siblings are on the pitch!

We had several long corners and so close misses at goal. Then in the last 2 minutes of the game Elsie made a beautiful pass into Georgie who scored our third goal of the game, just in time for the final whistle. Our final score was 3-1!

A massive thank you to Lesley Anne for stepping into goal this week and making some lovely saves!

Thank you to Paul, Lucy and Ben for all the coaching and to all our supporters on the sideline. A lovely way to end the fantastic season we have had finishing 2nd in the League.
