Players of the match Kacey, Meghan and Mia

This Saturday the Ladies 5’s played South Berkshire 4’s at their cold but dry birch hill pitch. The game started with the two centre forwards colliding and a restart of pushback.

SB quickly pressed us and the first 5 mins of the game was spent trying to clear the ball out of our 25. The defensive team of Helen, Clare, Mia and Nehal all worked really hard to try to get the ball to the mid field, LA and Tegan. But SB were quick to intercept balls and drive to the D. We managed to keep the ball from the goal and eventually got the ball out and up the pitch. Our waiting forwards of Meghan, Kacey and Cerys all tried hard to get the ball into the D but SB defenders intercepted the ball and sent it quickly back to their forwards. We jumped back and we’re on the defensive again. This is how the most of the half went. With us defending hard, but making use of any opportunity we managed to get the ball up the pitch. We had 2 defensive short corners which was cleared each time. But unfortunately SB managed to score twice in the half meaning we were 2-0 down at half time.

We had our half time talk and the main point raised was to not give them time on the ball!

We reset, this time with the low autumn sun in our eyes. SB centre forward drove the ball into our half when the whistle blew, but she did not release the ball and our defenders did and excellent job of intercepting her and sending the ball up the line to our mids.

We had also spoken at half time about our high forward supporting across the pitch and being on post with Ciara did at every chance she could but despite some lovely balls from Sienna into the D we didn’t manage to score.

SB had two more short corners. The first we cleared, but the second came flying into the D past Kiera and through Pippa’s legs to bring them to 3-0. As we neared the end of the game they won another short corner and the umpire said there were 25 seconds left, we were determined not to let the ball in. Clare and Nehal expertly ran out and the ball was cleared to safety. We finished the game 3-0, a tough match against a team at the top of the league but well done everyone!

Our players of the match went to Kacey, Meghan and Mia.
