MHC Ladies 5's vs Sonning 5's

The sun was just going down as we started our match against Sonning 5’s in the last slot of the day. Sonning won the toss and chose first pushback. They passed back to their midfield and we ran to pressure them. We got the ball and moved it up to the D. It went off the back line and we expertly set up our press as they took their 16. We picked up the ball and tired again at goal but the ball went just wide. Sonning cleared the ball quickly down the pitch and we all sprinted back to defend. The half continued in this way with both sides making breaks for the goal and each set of defenders working hard to keep the ball out of the D. Not long until the half time whistle and Sonning managed to slip the ball into the net.

After our team talk with Lucy we were switched on and ready for our pushback. We drove up the pitch after Kacey sent the ball back to our midfields. Unfortunately we then lost the ball to Sonning’s very strong centre mid. She brought the ball speedily down the pitch and our defenders ran hard to intercept her. We cleared the ball back out but unfortunately Sonning picked the ball up and headed for the D where they scored. We worked hard to take every opportunity to score goals of our own. There were some lovely balls into the D, but they never quite made the back of the net, until our second attacking short corner. When, after some bouncing around the D, Meghan managed to so scored with a cheeky backward hit just as Bex had taught us at training the previous Thursday!

Sonning then scored two more goals, bringing the score to 4-1 at the final whistle. Lucy G was voted player of the match. Well done everyone on a fab game and thanks to al the supporters on the sideline.
