Ladies 5s draw against a tough opposition

The sun was shining for what we knew would be a tough match against Milton Keynes. They had first pushback but we pressed from the off. We had some great play (and 3-D skills) up the right hand side from Rippon and Boycott on the left driving into the D attacking their defence. Even your esteemed captain had a go on goal but the less said about that the better! We tried to attack every rebound that was kicked out and it was from one of these that Sophie B scored a goal. Taylor made a beautiful pass in to the D to Sophie who reversed sticked it, but the goalie stopped it, ever determind, she got the rebound and nicely lifted it behind the goalie!

The game then became a bit like tennis with a strong press by Milton Keynes resulting in a defensive short which we cleared away nicely then another push by us and attempts on goal. Amelia trying to take on the goalie once again!
The backline of Sophie M, Hayley & Jess W had to work hard and Katie had a great game in the middle stopping a lot of their attacks.
We then another push by us. No result this time and then they caught us napping. We didn’t get back quickly enough and left 2 players unmarked in the D which cost us dearly as they slipped it past TJ to even it to 1-1.

Havana worked really hard in the middle having to keep an eye on their fast runners and push the ball out to the sides. Ruth to did her fair share of running, as did Taylor who’s back off holiday and showing off her tan!

At half-time we all looked like we’d been on holiday! It was hot in the sunshine as we were red-faced from working so hard. We certainly needed a break & an opportunity to refocus.

MK came out strong in the second half despite it being our pushback and all of us had to work to keep it out of our defensive half. Maddie showed great skill in going for the short. But Milton Keynes are an experienced team and the back line was very strong, including their goalie who kicked away so many of our attempts we lost count.
But that did not stop us from trying, with several long corners and one more short we really push them to the end. But we were beginning to look scruffy in our defence towards the end as everybody was hot and tired. Kierra got to experience her first attempt on goal and made a great save in a defensive short.

Sophie was awarded man of the match they have brilliant goal strong attitude on the pitch and general positivity.
Special mention must also go to Kiera for her first match in goal and thank you to TJ for supporting her. I know this will be the first of many for Kierra.
