The Ladies 5's face the top of the League
By Helen Todd
We were missing our injured forwards.......
We were Ready for this weeks match! As a team we really seemed to start the match in a much more energetic mood, helped by having two subs.
Amersham & Chalfont had first pushback and roughly 4 minutes in Sophie B managed to go over on her ankle. We played really well, with Taylor and Jess doing really well up front, but had a couple of unfortunate moments in the D, and ended up defending 3 short corners but making sure that A&C didn't get anywhere with them. Around this point, Sophie came back on for roughly 2 minutes before something terrible happened to her thumb (I'm honestly not sure what, I didn't want to look). We successfully defended 2 more defensive shorts and half time rolled around with the score still 0-0.
Kirsty very kindly arrived in the middle of the match to help our numbers and give us another forward.
We started the second half really strong, taking no time at all to earn 2 attacking shorts in a row - but unfortunately we didn't manage to do anything with them. We let our heads drop for a moment and left A&C a little too much space and they managed to score. That made us refocus and we upped the pressure to earn another short.
The match then started to look more like tennis, with the ball flinging from one end to the other down the middle of the pitch and A&C earned another short and put a lot of pressure on our defence - Keira did an excellent job making some really good saves but unfortunately they got another one in. We worked really hard for the rest of the match, keeping the pressure on and preventing any further attacks.
We played really well as a team and the score this week did not reflect how the match went. Jess W earned herself Man of the Match this week for some great work up front!
