On a unseasonably warm Sunday afternoon at Wellington College, the U12 Girls put on a fantastic team performance to record their first win of the season, beating South Berkshire by 6 goals to nil.
Maidenhead got off to a great start with early pressure resulting in their first goal and from that point were dominant in all areas of the pitch for the remainder of the match. The girls pressed hard and gave South Berks little time to hold the ball and build an attack and on the few occasions where long balls made it into Maidenhead's half, our defence was on hand to alleviate any danger, leaving our goalkeeper untroubled throughout the game.
Maidenhead used their superior possession to build relentless attacks with numerous plays down the right flank and crosses into the D where our attack converted into 5 more goals. With much of the game played in South Berks red zone, a succession of short corners was inevitable although this was one area where we were unable to convert into scores - one to work on in training!
Overall a very positive result to take forward into the start of the League proper. The girls' attitude and desire to win did them great credit, alongside their developing understanding of building an attack and keeping defensive shape. A big thanks to all parents for their support and commitment.
