Nail biting end to a great game

A great performance from all girls today lead to a much deserved 2-1 win although things were not always looking good for the Maids.

We pretty much camped out in their D for the entire 1st half but a goal was elusive despite some great linking from defence through midfield to the forwards. A chat at half time and an interjection from Paul who commented on how many shots had been made on goal......just the 1 and the girls were back out and hard at it.

Again play was very much in our attacking D and certainly the girls were actually getting more shots off but still no goal. Wycombe however were putting the pressure on and with holes forming in our midfield managed to convert on a quick break and score a goal with just 10 mins remaining.

So did the girls put their head down, certainly not, work rate increased and the aggressiveness (all positive) ramped up. 50/50 balls were won and the pressure on the Wycombe defence from Jess, Emily, Tilda, Holly and Evie earned a well deserved goal from Lizzie who had camped on the goal line.

So at 1-1 and just 5 min remaining the pressure continued and a 2nd goal, again scored by Lizzie led to the final whistle and a huge sigh of relief.

Player of the match from the opposition was awarded to Matilda (and deservedly so) but the coaches agreed that all the girls had today deserved the title.

Things to work on, continued aggressiveness and determination to score goals. Getting the ball into the D and ensuring forwards are playing high enough early enough to be targeted by the midfield.

Next week training is at Braywick again
