Mismatched by the girls kept their heads up!

Away to Reading is never a fun journey despite being just down the A4 from Altwood. It was clear from the start that the Reading team were somewhat more experienced and drilled than our team and we spent virtually the whole of the first half camped in our D. The girls should be really proud that half time came around and the score was only 2-0.

We talked at half time about needing to stretch the Reading team to give us some space to move and through the second half we tried a number of formations to get this to work. The Reading press in the midfield was robust and we never managed to break it down but we did have a number of runs into their half. The end result was 8-0 (Capped at 5-0 for the league).

A couple of special mentions this week, firstly to Oihana who saved many more than went in. The Reading girls were pinging the ball at the goal from anywhere in the D and at any height. And the second mention goes to Heather. Role model constant hassle and movement left her out on her feet at the end.

Congratulations girls for going to the end and trying to work out a way round this well drilled Reading team. And remember the words of Michael Rosen, 'we can't go over it, we can't go through it, we need to go round it' (This is the latest version written especially for hockey).
