After a morning of sickness calls it was great to get 11 girls on the pitch with three substitutes on the sideline. Wind was blowing right across the pitch at Wycombe High School but this didn't stop the girls getting off to a flyer. The first half was all Maidenhead, finishing 5-0 will goals from Harriet (2), Emma (2) and Amy. Really amazing was that three of the goals were straight off short corners which shows how quickly the team had clicked.
Second half started very much in the same shape as the first with Bella getting on the scoresheet. Despite attempts to avoid complacency the next 20 minutes of the second half were nervous. Early season fitness (or lack of) clearly also took its' toll with Maidenhead sitting far too far back. GK Amy saved any embarrassment with some outstanding saves.
Towards the end of the match, Maidenhead switched it up a gear again and bagged two more goals, another from Amy and Mia taking the last.
Congratulations girls for some great hockey, a great start to the season and to our player of the match, Mia. Thank you Amelia and Catlin for your expert pitch side management. See you all next week.
