Score didn’t reflect a good end to end match

A battling performance by Maidenhead u14 boys vs Richmond away resulted in a 6-0 loss however the score did not reflect a good end to end game.

Two early goals in the first 5 mins as Maidenhead settled into their formation and two in the last couple meant Maidenhead could take away a lot of positives from the match. Early on the attack was all Maidenhead as the midfield of Marc, Flynn and Edward created space and pressure on the Richmond defence allowing Max, Jay and Sam to all put quick pressure on resulting in an early short corner.
Missing a couple of usual team Marc and Flynn improvised but were unable to convert.

Although attacking well we were unfortunately caught on the break and some of the older Richmond players were able to show some good one-two hockey to slot past for 2 goals in quick succession.

Into the second quarter and Maidenhead reorganised pushing Marc into attacking defence to support Cleve, Declan and Zac.
Although shots still came in this gave Freddie enough protection to block and clear on a number of occasions.
The midfield also supported by a skilful Luke created a number of breaks and the quarter ended with no more goals.

Second half Maidenhead had a number of breakaways onto goal with Max and Jay particularly unlucky when one on one with keeper, what was really positive was the passing through the midfield and position play to create the opportunities. And again these were real opportunities with both short corners and shots on target. We have a focus for training :)

Last quarter and a couple of quick breakaways from Richmond, the first a little controversial, stretched the defence and having only the 11 players fitness began to play a part which contributed to the final goals.

All round a positive game if a disappointing scoreline, and the kindly offered cakes at the end were well deserved.
