A hard fought draw

The Development Squad deserved their hard-fought draw against a robust Slough team today at Braywick, writes Jim Taylor.

Maidenhead took the lead early in the second half from a penalty short corner when Maisie and Ellie combined to finally beat a strong Slough keeper.

Up until that point the home team had been well on top both in terms of possession and chances created...but they just couldn’t score.

This was a much more solid second performance of the season by the Dev girls who showed strong team commitment all over the pitch.

We attacked from the start with Stella creating a good opening from Caroline’s switch pass.

From then on, Maisie regularly pushed forward from midfield, ably supported by Ellie with Alexis and Maddie upfront both causing problems for the Slough defence.

At the other end, Slough had an attack in the 14th minute which resulted in their only short corner of the first half. The shot was well cleared by Simran at the far post.

Simran and Anna stood out in defence with Lizzie providing a good shield from her holding position in midfield.

In front of her, Slough were prepared to battle but Caroline and Caitlin moved the ball well to feed some good passes to the front line and used the width.

Slough levelled with five minutes to go from a short corner with Keira - who had been confident all morning - finally beaten.

The Dev Squad was made up of many who braved the shocking rain last weekend - and this time round they enjoyed their day in the sunshine.

Next up for the Dev Squad team is 4th Nov V South Berks away
