2s open with a win at home to MK
The 2s started off their league campaign with a convincing 5-2 win in an entertaining game at home ot Milton Keynes. Maids started strongly, but after a series of short-corners produced no rewards, they somewhat fortuitously opened up a 2-0 lead in the first quarter with two quick goals. Firstly Marcus Foley's cross-shot deflected of an MK stick past the helpless goalkeeper, which was shortly followed by Nick Lloyd lifting a rebound over the prone keeper to double the lead.
MK started to get a foothold in the match, but Maid's increased their lead with a sweetly struck reverse into the roof of the net by Rich Mulvany. However, the MK pressure told as a young Maids team started to tire towards the end of the half with MK's star striker scoring with a composed finish to show why he was one of the league's top scorers last year.
Half-time appear to come at just the right time for Maids with MK pressing for a second, but despite the break the goal game shortly after the break to halve the deficit. Maids then received a stroke of luck from a great umpiring decision as an equalising goal, initially given, was ruled out as it hadn't touched an MK stick in the D.
As MK pushed forward in search of an equaliser, spaces were left at the back for Maids on the counter attack. A ball thrown over the top by Marcus was taken on by Ollie Lovegrove before David Lambeth swept the ball into the net to restore the two-goal lead, before Marcus finished the scoring with a strong drag-flick past the MK keeper from a penatly corner.
