A little too full of Christmas Cheer...

Maidenhead 2 vs Sonning 2

This was the best match so far this season. Our team is really coming together and starting to exhibit some great skills as a team, and not just a bunch of individuals.

We scored within the first 10 minutes taking us 1:0 up. Sonning scored shortly afterwards to equalise.

We spent most of the first half in Sonning’s half of the pitch and at half time we had scored again to take a 2:1 lead.

During the first half one of us counted 12 short corners had been awarded to Sonning. None had resulted in goals. In the second half the awards for short corners were coming in thick and fast. Some were questioning the “possibility” of bias from the Sonning umpires. Either that, or the same umpire consistently awarding the short corners was airline cabin crew in a previous life, and just loved striking that “both arms forward” pose of the emergency exits routine in the safety briefing!!

Interestingly, a fresh set of players were substituted from Sonning in the second half, and short corners were now resulting in goals! Weren’t sure where these additional players had come from ... shame for Sonning they weren’t available to play in the first half ;)

At one point the boozed up Sonning supporters made us wonder if we had been transported to a football match! Think they’d started their Christmas party early :) I thought Sonning had such a classy reputation!!!

Final score was 4:2 to Sonning.

Well played Maidenhead. Strong team skills; way more stamina; and, as always, proper gentlemen!!!
