Spectators match report

It was a cold afternoon at Newbury & Thatcham Club. Being the last match of the day, we started nearly 45 minutes late. The first 20 mins we started strong, with a majority of the play in Newbury's half. However, once they made their way into our D, there was no stopping them!

After a short corner was awarded to Newbury & Thatcham, which they scored, they managed to get themselves almost immediately back into our D and sadly scored again taking them 2:0 up. Thankfully we held on to our fighting spirit, and with some great passing skills, got our way back into Newbury's half. Fabulous result, we managed to win ourselves a short corner, but sadly failed to score. If there's one thing to be said for that Newbury & Thatcham team, they're fast!! A few less beers needed over this season lads!

My those Newbury players and supporters are a noisy bunch!

Shortly before the end of the first half, we were awarded our second short corner, but sadly we didn't manage to score. Then, Newbury & Thatcham managed to break into our half again and, like a red streak, motored straight into the D and scored a third.

After, no doubt, encouraging words from Ed and Handbag during half-time we stole ourselves back into Newbury & Thatcham's half and won ourselves our 3rd short corner, which we still didn't manage to convert...note to all, turn up on Tuesday night to practice short corners!

Newbury & Thatcham went on to score 2 more goals taking the final score to 5:0 rendering the home supporters several decibels louder in their cheers of rapture at their early season win!

In summary, observing from the side, our team were way stronger at targeted passing and being mainly in the opposition's half of the pitch. But, when those "reds" broke through into our half, they were too fast for us to regain our defence, leaving our D and our goal poorly defended. The speed of those "reds" was also against us on our attacks. Whenever we found ourselves in their D, most of their team were there first!

We fought valiantly to the bitter end, and delivered a fantastic performance for a team that is only newly formed.
