The Monarchs produced a great all round team display to beat a very good Amersham team that was very well organised. The Monarchs took the lead early on when Viren was bundled over chasing a through ball and he converted the resulting penalty flick. The Monarch defended very well with wave after wave of attacks from the opposition and the back four of Duncan, Randy, Mike and Nick stood firm and kept Amersham at bay. The team made some good counter attacks and were very unlucky not to go in 2-0 up at the break after a Gavin's diving effort on goal was saved by the opposition keeper. Connor playing in goal made some great saves in the second half to keep the team in the match and from yet another counter attack, a superb ball down the line from Richard was picked up by Viren who found Greg at the back post who slotted in for 2-0. The team then got behind the ball and defended well despite a late goal from Amersham. The game should have been put beyond Amersham when Richard's well struck shot was saved by a defenders foot on the line; Viren missed the resulting penalty flick which made the last 10 minutes a little uneasy but the whole team defended well to keep Amersham out. Connor followed up last week's man of the match performance playing outfield with another one today playing in goal. A great team effort and a well deserved 3 points.
