Monarchs win comfortably

The Monarchs put on a solid display to earn a 3-0 win over Leighton Buzzard 4s. The team started off a little shakily with the opposition getting in the first early crosses into the Monarch's D. Andy, playing his first match in goal for the Monarchs, was on hand early on to ensure that Leighton Buzzard were denied a shot on goal. The Monarchs began to pass well from defence to midfield and used the wings well to start to create a number of good chances. The deadlock was finally broken with a cross from the right from Richard which Zac knocked onto Viren who was waiting at the back post to slot in. The team then went 2 up when Viren found Richard who managed to get a shot on target that was potentially nudged in by the opposition defender with Chad in close proximity in any case to have finished off the opportunity. The team did not let up in the second half with more chances created but with no goal until the last 10 minutes when Rod found Viren out on the right of the D who in turn crossed to Chad who had found space to finish off for 3-0. The team 's defence was as solid as ever with all the back four putting in some great performances and the defensive midfield pairing breaking things up and moving the ball swiftly upfield to start a number of attacks. The team can only be disappointed in not scoring more goals but a 3-0 home win puts the Monarchs in 4th place but tied on 25 points with the 2nd and 3rd placed teams with games in hand. Next up is a crucial away match to the league leaders. Well done to Duncan Sturdy who put in a very strong performance at right back. This was a great team effort and well-deserved win.
