The Monarchs went down 1-0 to a first half goal despite having a lot of possession and a host of chances to win the match against Wycombe 6. The team started slowly with some early defending required as a youthful Wycombe team pressed with attack after attack but nothing that really troubled the Monarchs' backline. With some good work on the right hand side, Richard found space several times to drive in crosses which were blocked out well from the Wycombe defence. Mid-way through the second half, Wycombe went ahead against the run of play and the Monarch pushed on for the equaliser with numerous chances created but no clinical finish. In the second half there was wave after wave of Monarchs attacks with Gavin effective on the left hand side and Duncan pushing up on the right to get the attacks moving. Harley also grew into the game with some good tackling in the midfield but in general the end ball from the team was not accurate enough to pick out an attacker and the team seemed to panic in and around the D and couldn't finish off the moves. The team had a host of short corners to put things right and Wycombe did well to hold firm and on occasion, cleared the ball from off the line when an equaliser was imminent. In all, Wycombe deserved their win for probably playing the more composed hockey throughout. This was a below par Monarchs performance and one to forget as this was not of the standard that the team has set for themselves this season. Man of the match goes to Randy for a solid performance as ever in defence. Next up, and away trip to Aylesbury to put things back on track.
