Monarchs back to winning ways

The Monarchs were fired up for the return match with Wycombe 5s after
our sound defeat by MK last week and unfortunate result against Slough
the week before which brought to an end our winning streak.

With a few players carrying injuries and greater youthfulness on the
side of the opposition we were keen to keep control and started well
putting pressure on the opposition goal from the beginning.

The fisrt goal came to the Maids albeit from a mistake by the keeper who
seemed more intent in playing the attacker rather than the ball. The
cards came out as the opposition got a little heated to the umpire but
this appeared to galvinise them and they steeped up their game and
scored shortly afterwards putting greater pressure on our goal.

It was end to end for a while but the opposition managed to get two free
hits outside the D and ran one in to score. Despite protests that the
ball had not travelled the regulation 5m the score stood at 2-1 at half
time.

An inspiring speach at half time remined us of the objective to win, to
stand up to the physicality of particular opposition members and to get
back to winning ways. In the second half the Monachs stepped up and
pressed the opposition goal more effectively. Several short corners
were won and in the end 3 more goals were scored albeit that one by Rod
was disallowed - where's the video referral when you need it!

The latter part of the game saw greater pressure on Maidenheads goal
with the opposition having several scoring chances and short corners,
but through lack of experience or composure they didnt finish it off.

A good win helps heal the wounds of the previous match with Wycombe and
set the tone for the rest of the season - however the Monarchs need to
maintain focus throughout the whole game as when we get tired and switch
off we look vulnerable.

The man of the match has to go to Sean who undoubtedly kept us in the
game on several occasions with at least 4 quality top class saves

With 4 games to play, we are still in the running so lets bring it on!
