LADIES 1'S TOOK ON HAVANT AT HOME LAST SATURDAY

Havant had enjoyed a very good run of games leading into Saturday’s fixture, coming off the back of a victory against Amersham and Chalfont last week.

Havant brought that tempo into the first quarter, creating some good periods of attacking play.

Maids fought well, and with some great work rate from our forwards, we created some excellent opportunities.

Frankie Wilding made some great runs down the right-hand side and had shots on goal that were unfortunately dealt with by the Havant keeper.

Sarah Fuller was able to keep the Havant defence under pressure and won the ball in the press, giving Maids more chances on goal.

However, it was Havant who opened the scoring with a great baseline run and a back-post tap-in to make it 0–1 to the travelling team as we entered the second half.

In the third quarter, Maidenhead were able to lift the tempo, and the battle was on.

As we entered the final quarter, the pressure was on Maids to equalise.

After winning a number of short corners, a great ball from the top of the circle to Emma Bunyard for the deflection that found the Havant defender’s body on the line, resulting in a penalty flick for Maidenhead.

Captain Chantal Hankin, who had been instrumental for the team in both the midfield and forward line, stepped up to the spot. Cool and collected, Chants slotted the ball into the side netting with an excellent finish to make the score 1–1.

It was a well-battled final few minutes, with the team leaving everything out on the pitch. An excellent performance from the whole team, but it was Chantal who was voted Player of the Match by her teammates.
