The Men’s 1s continued their season on Saturday with a second successive home loss, despite a much improved performance against Eastcote.
Eastcote started the match at a breakneck speed and Maids were indebted to some excellent saves from Karl Delli to keep the game scoreless in the opening quarter. However, with Maids looking to get a foothold in the game, the pressure finally told as Eastcote took a 1-0 lead.
In contrast to the previous week’s fixture, where one goal quickly led to more, Maids responded positively, enjoying both pressure and numerical advantage following a green card for Eastcote. Unfortunately the pressure did not turn into goals leaving the score 1-0 at halftime with Maid’s closest attempt being Anthony Brayshaw’s sweetly struck reverse that whistled over the bar.
The second half followed a similar pattern with Eastcote exerting pressure and Maids bending, but not breaking, unless a clever reaction finish from a saved penalty corner allowed Eastcote to double their advantage.
With Maids chasing the game, chances were always likely to appear at the back, which resulted in a pair of cards for Maidenhead players and a pair of goals for Eastcote as they eased clear to a 4-0 victory.
The Men’s 1s continue next with our first road trip of the season away to Witney.
