Coming towards the backend of the season with the league secured, this game was more about Maidenhead’s team and personal goals than anything else.

Having narrowly lost to Yateley away, we were eager to settle the score. From pushback Maidenhead looked strong, with adjustments to our press matching the opposition’s midfield focus. After most of the attacking play going our way, Maidenhead managed a 2-0 first half lead with a solid short corner rebound from Mike and a quality individual goal from AJ.

Moving into the second half, Maidenhead gave away a cheap goal from a defensive mis-pass which let Yateley back in 2-1. This was against the run of play and changed how the game moved forward. After this, a questionable short corner brought Yateley their second goal. Maidenhead managed to strike back with their own short corner goal from Paul, edging ahead again, only for Yateley to respond in kind. Maidenhead did their best to draw ahead again with multiple short corners, but couldn’t find a smooth routine on a sticky pitch.

The game finished 3-3 drawn with a green card given to each team. On the whole, a game that was in our hands but a point is better than none.
