Men's 3's vs Windsor 3's

Helen Todd20 Mar - 21:48

Viren scored his 19th goal of the season

The Men's 3's put on arguably their finest team performance of the year with an excellent victory on a crisp, bright and chilly Saturday afternoon.
After a string of poor results their season was in danger of slipping away to mid table disappointed but with this result they're guaranteed to finish no lower than 4th with a possible 2nd place still tantalisingly in reach.

The game started with Maidenhead on the back foot and unable to get out of their own half with poor passing and a lack of communication the main reason. They were thankful to Rav in goal for some fine saves to keep the opposition out.

Slowly but surely Maidenhead grew into the game and started to move the ball well, especially down both wings with Mark and Jake in particular getting the ball into the D for the forwards of Tim and Viren.

The first goal came courtesy of one of these attacks with a penalty corner being awarded and Tim finishing off thanks to a fine assist from Tim.
This lifted the 3's and they soon scored their second. Again Tim finishing off with another assist from Tim.

With the half drawing to a close and the team determined not to let Windsor back in the game, Clint took it upon himself to time waste with a quite spectacular aerial nearly launched into orbit, coming down with a resounding smack onto the school roof. Bewilderment and hysterics followed, a clear tactic that threw the opposition off their game and drew the first half to a close.

Windsor, clearly still rattled, started the 2nd half slowly allowing the 3's to carry on attacking helped by Ed controlling the midfield. The 3rd goal came after another sustained spell of pressure, this time Viren scoring with Tim again assisting. Windsor then sparked back into life but could find no way through the stout defence of Rich and DM in the middle with Dave Dunford and the evergreen JC on the flanks.

Having soaked up everything that Windsor could throw at them, the 3's finished the game and the scoring off with their 4th.

Viren tucking away his 19th goal of the season thanks again to an assist from Tim.

With the final 2 games against the teams occupying 1st and 2nd place in the league, Maidenhead will look to replicate this result and performance and really end the season on a high.
