The U12's Girls travelled to Oxford on Sunday for their first League fixture of the season, and players and spectators alike were pleased to start the game in glorious sunshine with perfect hockey conditions. It was the home team though that made the brighter start, with 2 quick well-worked goals in the first quarter.
Maidenhead rallied in Q2 and began to find some defensive shape, which along with good goalkeeping held the score at 2-0 at halftime. Carrying this momentum into the 2nd half, the girls began to exert good pressure and spent far more of the game in Oxford's half putting together several attacking moments down the centre of the pitch. This pressure soon paid off with a number of short corners which resulted in Maidenhead's first goal. An unwelcome downpour then hampered playing conditions and despite more strong contributions from our 2nd half goalkeeper, Oxford were able to re-establish the 2 goal deficit. With one quarter remaining the girls again found renewed energy and pressed hard, with the teams trading goals to give the home side a hard fought 4-2 win.
Plenty to work on in training, but a very credible team performance in tough conditions. Well done to all players and a big thanks as ever to parents for your ongoing support
