A frenetic end to end fixture for Men's Dev ended in a 1-1 draw on Saturday.
Wallington borrowed 4 of our players to make it a 10 v 10 shootout.
Stephen and Tim, the latter fresh off a flight from Chile, controlled the midfield, thwarting our visitors attempts to breach the Maidenhead defence.
The first half ended 0-0, with all to play for.
The deadlock was beautifully broken with a fine team goal starting with some great work from skipper JC and Jayen deep in our own half. Stephen glided into the D and hit a shot across the keeper which was well saved, but son Nathan was first to anticipate and slot home the finish, chalking up another goal to his name. 1-0 Maidenhead. Haynes family happy.
This was the catalyst the opposition needed, with wave after wave of attack putting pressure on our defence, Nick making some fine interventions. Finally the pressure led to an equaliser - George and Clint worked well to feed Rod who as always sniffed out a pocket of space to finish first time past Finbar. 1-1.
Finbar made a host of fantastic saves, somehow diverting a point blank rocket from Clint around the post, and standing strong for ten short corners in the 2nd half.
Maidenhead had chances to seal the win too, Luca, Tommy and Nathan repeatedly combining well to tear up the pitch, only for the counter attack to lack the cutting edge needed to get our noses in front.
A brilliant afternoon out for all, played in great spirit. Thanks to the gents that helped out the oppo, Mete and Cory for great umpiring, and well done to all the colts who keep impressing and improving each week.
Finally a special mention to Torin, who stayed after his 1s game to cheer on our youngsters and give them some tips on becoming even better players. Cheers Torin!
