Men's Dev were beaten after taking a 2-0 lead early at Sunbury.
Rob picked up the ball on the edge of the D, feeding Rod who slotted home from close range to break the deadlock. This was followed by a wonderful breakaway goal, the ball cleared off our goal-line to Rohan who ran up the middle, finding Rod, who deftly laid the ball off for Nathan to smash a trademark finish into the far corner. 2-0 up, should be an easy Saturday. Or not...
The Sunbury players woke up, smashing big hits down the middle to their target man and out-muscling our young midfielders with some 'physical' play, aided by some generous umpiring decisions. 2-1 up at half time.
After the interval, our hosts dialed up the pressure, Finbar making a host of excellent saves to keep them out, but eventually the pressure told, and they netted a comical winner when everyone but one person stopped playing after a clear infringement was missed. Always play to the whistle lads!
All in all, a challenging fixture against experienced opposition, and valuable game time for all. Man of the match was U12 Harry for some devilish runs down the wing, and good battling for the ball. A great addition to the Men's Dev squad!
We go again next week at home to Wallington.
